Finance and Value Creation Workshop
What would a businessman (or woman) think
if you asked "What is NPV?", or don't understand how an organisation
creates value for investors?
CSEL organises and funds a two day workshop,
designed specifically for members of UCL to address issues
such as these. If you are preparing research proposals for
company funding, or thinking about commercialising technology
ideas this is a valuable workshop to attend. If taking an
MBA elective at London Business School (500+ UCL members have
so far), we cannot recommend this workshop too highly. The
workshop is a pre-requisite for some electives.
If you do require this workshop as a pre-requisite
for a London Business School elective in the upcoming term,
you will automatically receive a place and I will send you
more information at a later date, but you must
still register using the link below. Therefore,
please still apply for the elective of your choice and I will
make sure you receive a place on the workshop before the start
of term!
To register your interest please click here
The next
workshop will be held in September 2009
PLEASE NOTE: If you have registered for
the workshop, an invite will be sent to you about 4 weeks
before the course. Please don't accept the invite unless
you can attend both days in full!
FEEDBACK FROM RECENT WORKSHOPS:
"....In addition to teaching the principles
of value creation from a technical standpoint (eg calculation
of NPV from discounted future cash flows), the lecturer also
filled in real-world examples and gave a broad sense of how
the stock-markets function, and of how company valuations
are arrived it." January 2009
"This is a great opportunity for me
to learn finance and really recommend other scientific and
engineering students without any experience in finance to
attend." January 2009
"I have a great understanding on how
financial markets work, how company accounts work and the techniques
used to create value whilst also understanding who benefits
from the value creation and the dangers caused by the current
global financial crisis." January 2009
".....It was a great insight to have
into the business world and an enjoyable learning experience.
Even though I am mentally exhausted after the workshop, it
has been worth every minute. The financial world doesnt
seem to me like a big unknown anymore and I feel more confident
in engaging with the current financial issues." September
2008
"Listening to Keith talk about accounting
and finance gave the subject depth that I never knew it had!
He is obviously very passionate about the entire discipline
and is extremely knowledgeable, but at no point was he put
off by people asking questions, and explained every argument
with patience and precision.
Just being in the class was an experience I wont forget
in a hurry. Rarely do we get the chance to meet people who
are true leaders in their field, who are also genuinely nice.
I could go on but actually I know exactly what Keith would
want me to say, something that is always the right answer:
Keith taught me how I can create VALUE, and thats something
I didnt know." September 2008
"Very entertaining, stimulating and
addressing concurrent world issues with a hint of humour.
Keith's personal experience with different companies was extremely
useful and educative." September 2008
"I now understand the major driver
behind running a successful company to create value
for the owners (i.e. shareholders).
The stories of Mr Freeman were particularly interesting and
made the course all the more interesting and valuable
the techniques can be learnt from a book, but it is very difficult
to get true worth of these methods without the case-studies
provided by Mr Freeman" April 2008
"I found the workshop to be a good
introduction. Keith did an excellent job of describing what
value was and how it is measured in a business sense. I was
particularly impressed with his ability to make a dry subject
engagingthis helped greatly with meeting my objectives
since I was able to stay focused." April 2008
"I really did learn a lot on the course,
while I knew most of the core aspects of the course, the lecturer
really explained some concepts well that I didnt fully
understand (even when I previously thought I did!)" April
2008
"Id just like to reiterate how impressed I was
by Keith. Any man that can explain finance in an entertaining
fashion has a very, very rare talent." April 2008
"It is a very useful workshop, and
I thank the opportunity to be in it. I thought that I would
get bored (since I studied most of the things before) but
it was an excellent review, EXCELLENT PROFESSOR and I enjoyed
being in it." April 2008
"I found the workshop really useful
as it was really different than what I have been doing for
years and it was a beginner's level-basic course." January
2008
"I have learned a lot on how to value
a project, how to value a company, how to choose a potential
project and how to price a project. Also learned something
on the store market, pension, tax etc. I think this course
is excellent." January 2008
